This is even more of a knock to Microsoft but the overheating during sleep issue can affect any windows laptop made in the last 5 or so years. The cause is nothing surface specific, it’s Microsoft enforcing “Modern standby” and blocking S3/S4 sleep states in windows. My best understanding is that some bug causes the system to stay awake after one of the periodic wake ups to check for updates/notifications that happen in modern standby.

My work laptop just started doing this 3 weeks ago! It's insane. Rather new machine too.

It gets so hot in my bag I actually worry about it starting a fire one day. I now take it out every night.

Obviously I tried googling but no dice. Nothing changed, settings seem in order, no idea what to do.

It's probably a particular device that's causing it to wake. Check out using sleepstudy.

You can also use `powercfg /requests` (in Admin mode) to see if something is actively preventing shutdown. Sometimes it can be software + HW combos.

Ha, whenever my laptop would wake up, that command would only show:

"Wake up triggered by: unknown"

It was supremely unhelpful

I also had this starting a few months back. I changed the email address (really, just an alias to the same mailbox as before) and the notifications stopped.

My “trick” for this was getting a dog in my early 20s, while living in an apartment, doesn’t matter how much I wanted to sleep in, they needed to go out, so I had to get up. And without thinking I moved my sleep schedule to accommodate this. Worth it.

I went with gitea, but for the same general reasons. I like It has the option to mirror repos up to GitHub for the stuff I actually want to share with the world. Is there anything that made you choose forgejo specifically? I’m not eager to move platforms, but I know there’s more options that have popped up in the years since I first stood up my gitea instance.

Same, Gitea (in Docker) has been running very smoothly for years. Havent had a single issue.

Also now wondering about differences with forgejo.

Heads up that the switch 2 launched last May! (Depending on region) though they announced the next mainline Pokémon game won’t launch till 2027.

Above is probably referencing an "Upgrade Pack," a product allowing owners of Switch 1 games get them to work a little better on the Switch 2. For examples, the $10 "Pokemon Legends" Upgrade Pack slightly improves the frame rate and draw distance.

I don’t care how practical it may or may not be, this is my new favorite LLM benchmark

Do you recall what podcast? I know hearing him say this was intentional is only gonna make me frustrated, but I’m dying to hear the justification for such a bad decision.

It’s actually not. 60% opposed,+20% not sure is 80% of the population would count as a “vast majority”

Are these polls as good as the election pools? dubious at best.

Election polls were only ever off a couple percentage points. US elections are hard to predict because they are so close. And because of the electoral system. So missing by a bit can mean making a wildly wrong prediction.

This does not apply to opinion questions that show huge differences (not single digit percentage point differences), though there validity, not reliability is a bigger concern, especially since there exists no voting benchmark you can measure against.

Still: I think it’s awfully convenient to just wholly discount actual empirical evidence whenever you feel like it because it might not be perfect. Why exactly do you think your gut feeling is better?

I had Xfinity for 4 years and my IP changed once in that time! Now I have fiber from centurylink, and it changes anytime I need to reboot the fiber modem or my firewall. Different companies, same metro area though. That too makes me wonder about how both manage their allocations give the difference in IP assignments.

My personal favorite example of this in football
