Are we really a minority ? Feels like a lot of people just suffer in silence.
Even though I dislike SQL on many levels, I would be hard pressed to find a better, widely supported alternative. I gave up writing portable SQL and just target PostgreSQL now.
Just spitballing; I have seen prefixing integers of arbitrary length with a bit 1 as the most significant bit as a way to avoid loosing the leading 0s when serializing the integers if the size is important. Also, IIRC, it's possible to implement shamir using arbitrary length integers instead of a common finite field. Not sure why someone would recommend doing either in that context though.
I used to use em-dashes all the time, same with semicolons, in my academic writing. I love obscure punctuation rules (yes I'm a loser). I've stopped using most of them as AI advanced. Whilst I have a back catalogue of work using them it just wasn't worth the risk of having my work questioned. I'm sad about this AI ruins all the good stuff!
Remarkably, I found a blog where I thought "This sounds like AI" but I wasn't sure, so I went to their back catalogue from decades ago, and the writing was similar so I gave them a pass.
Then I checked the internet archive.
They had replaced all their back catalogue with AI slop.
Just curious – what privileges do you feel you've had to give up on the path to a slightly more equitable society?
Because as a man myself I honestly wouldn't be able to say which privileges I've lost that my forefathers enjoyed, besides sexism with impunity. In fact, I have it easier, for the time being at least. No military conscription for one. And with the recognition that the patriarchy hurts all I've been able to actualize myself in a way that is more authentic to myself than the constraints of past generations would have allowed.
Like being paid more (because they work in more dangerous or risky jobs) or having higher suicide rate or being able to wear clothes repeatedly without being judged. Not being forced to wear makeup
I don't get it. People who take dangerous or risky jobs nobody else wants do get paid more. Higher suicide rate has nothing to do with some privileges being taken away. As for clothes, it depends on your social circle - in mine people couldn't care less. As for make up, I have no idea what you mean.
I don't know. A lot of countries in East Asia seem to struggle demographically just as much as Western countries do, if not more.
But at least it seems they didn't go for the easy solutions that is mass immigration, so hopefully their children's "seats" won't be taken when they finally wake up.
On the other hand, as someone living in Central Europe, it's obvious our society is heading towards a radical change. I don't know what will happen, but I don't recall ever reading about a indigenous population becoming a minority being a good thing for them.
I think its more about a rotten ideology and mass migration is only a symptom. Also it could make sense if you would actually care about taking people that are educated and willing to work.
This is an overly charitable take on the role of AI companies.
A more realistic view would be that they shamelessly plundered the work of millions of people, used it to destroy the livelihood of the original creators, while making a profit for themselves out of this collective nightmare.
> it's delivered for free (as in beer) to the government
Not everywhere though; it's up to the canton or municipality to implement this. It's literally the only reason I still buy stamps.
Should be made a thing at the federal level imho.
There is a significant difference between jury duty and military service when it comes to risks and bodily harm. Equating the two as both being "reductions" is absurdly missing the point.
I'm not equating them. Military service is a much bigger reduction. But it doesn't seem fair to call it a complete elimination of bodily autonomy -- that's my main claim.
