"Don't be evil" comes to mind. I wonder if any company -- or for that matter, any software development organization, whether paid or volunteer -- can really avoid bad decisions when they get big?

hmm. company mode has been doing part of this job for a long time now.

suboptimization; learned about this in engineering school 40 years ago: don't optimize the most visible parameter by itself, or you'll likely end up crashing. why do we have to freaking rename everything?
