Alternatively a "use it or lose it" requirement that the company must use the IP in a significant way. Either by proving that the sales of the product is still significant (like GTA V) or provide a meaningful update within X years (unlike GTA 6)

There are other ways occupy our time. Arts, music, carpentry, gardening, sports, games, care provider and many more.

And self-employment. Lots of people would like to go their own way in business, but don't have the capital to do it long enough (i.e. endure enough failed risks) to be successful.

It seems to me that what is "socialism" is just based on politicians personal definitions.

  Basic education for the people = good
  Higher education for the people = socialism

  Bail outs and subsidies for businesses = good
  Safety net for individuals = socialism

  Public highway = good
  Public railroad = socialism
