I made a turntable that spins cars around at 12 rpm, which doesn't sound like a lot but when it's your car spinning around at 12 rpm, it's a lot.


What was it for exactly? 5 sec/rotation is a lot of angular velocity.


It was an imaging system for cars that needed high throughput. Normally you would just have a lot of cameras all around the car, but they were very space constrained so spinning the car was the only way to get all the angles.


Just sitting here in my armchair - wouldn't it be easier to rotate a camera around a car?


That was the space issue. There wasn't room to swing the camera around.
