If the plane indeed was landed on a remote airport with the passengers alive, the hijackers would have stripped the passengers of their clothes to ensure nobody could bring weapons or devices with them.
By now, most mobile phones (even the Nokia developing world ones) would have been out of battery.

There could still have been a phone in a checked bag. They may have also gone the route of suffocating everyone by climbing to 45,000 depressurized instead of threatening passengers and risking a hero.
Sure the batteries would be dead now but what about connection that were made before they landed? I though that data is stored by most phone companies upto at least 6 months.
The fuel would have gone out before most of the phones I would think. If they landed and passed any tower while doing so there is a chance something was picked up.
